Stimpy, you eeediot!!

Julius von Brunk continues his Nickelodeon theme with an excellent tribute to Stimpson J. Cat, of The Ren & Stimpy Show fame.  The expression says it all with this guy, and Julius is clearly a fan for choosing this portrayal.  For those of you unfamiliar with the network's original lineup, the series ran for five seasons in the early 90's.  It's vulgar humor and innuendo, according to Wikipedia, set the stage for shows like Beavis and Butt-head and South Park.  What a legacy!

Bat-Tastic!

BrickNerd's own Roy of Floremheim has come up with this nifty version of the Dark Knight.  Watching over Gotham, the figure stands at one foot tall.  What I like most is his fully loaded utility belt, complete with Batarang, Batlight, and Batclaw.  I even think there's a Bat-toothbrush on there, too.  Because remember, kids, even Superheroes need good oral hygiene!

Itadakimasu!

Not to be outdone in the final round of the Iron Builder contest, Cecilie Fritzvold has gone with a different kind of art, the culinary arts.  Conveyor belt sushi, to be more specific.  An infinite train of tasty morsels, and once removed and eaten, instantly replaced.  I could sit there all day!  My only question is, How do those chefs get out of there?

Tell Your Story

For those of you too young to remember, the main subject of this piece by Chris Maddison is a typewriter.  For generations, writers would sit in front of such a machine, with a nice view through the window, and a blank sheet of paper staring back at them.  Of course there are many ways to tell a story, whether on paper, on a canvas, or with LEGO brick.  And as Chris' last build for the Iron Builder contest, what a story he's told!

It's a Trap!

Our old pal Eero Okkonen has come up with an impressive bust of the Mon Calamari Admiral we all know and love.   Everything with this creation is spot on, and he looks like he's about to bark an order to the Rebel Fleet.  The Admiral has appeared in several Star Wars movies, but is probably most famous when his keen strategic instincts kicked in during the Battle of Endor.  When those shields didn't drop, he realized the Empire was up to... something fishy...  Sorry, just had to.

Island of Catan

Feast your eyes on this colorful scene by Simon NH!  You've got all the elements you need in a Medieval Scandinavian village: Town hall, check; market, check; dock for the weekly supply run, check; and monastery (presumably for beer production), check.  What really stands out in this build, aside from all the interesting details and techniques, is the use of every single LEGO color.  Nicely done!

Nautilus

Two years in the making, Alexander Safarik has finally completed his 1.75m SHIP!  It's made entirely out of LEGO, too, no metal or wooden framing needed.  His next task is to create some other ships in addition to a ground scene beneath.  The second shot really highlights the variety of understated color blocks along the length of the ship.  Not sure what they indicate, but it all looks pretty cool to me.  And if you want to see this beast in person, Alexander says he's going to be taking it to Brickcon this year.  Awesome!

Leaving the City

Inspired by a Jack Vettriano painting of the same name, Bricks Noir has created this stunning version in LEGO.  As I've said in previous posts, capturing the human form in any medium is no easy task.  But Bricks has done just that, and brilliantly.  Not only with the flowing curves of the main subject, but also a sense of motion as she admires the shadowy cityscape in the distance. Very effective!

CS Controler 15

"Shuttle, this is Control.  You are cleared to land.  Welcome to the 1-5."  "Copy that Control..."  I just love space stations, with all their landing chatter and procedures.  Something like this is way overdue, and Damien Labrousse had really delivered.  He's come up with a convincing asymmetric design, a nifty saucer embedded within the control tower, and of course the Classic Space color scheme.  To top it off, it's finished with some high quality photo-editing, just floating there in low orbit.  One question for Damien, though, how'd you get it to balance on that antenna?

ARES-3

Bob DeQuatre has been waiting to build this for quite a while now.  Exactly three years, in fact.  Designed on LDD, he's finally gotten around to building this ship in real bricks.  And it's certainly been worth the wait!  Gotta love the curves and the color scheme, complete with the massive blasters on each side.  And a couple of Classic Space logos thrown in for good measure.  Awesome!

Qapla'!

For those who don't already know, that's Klingon for "Success!"  And that's what my pal Kevin J. Walter must have exclaimed when he finally finished this awesome Bird of Prey.  It's his all-time favorite spaceship, and the project took him six years to complete.  The goal was to have it finished by the end of the year for the Star Trek 50th Anniversary.  Just in the nick of time, Kevin, you old Targ!

East Meets East

Capturing the human form in any artistic medium is always a challenge.  But Grantmasters has done just that with these two armed foes.  Their poses, right out of a martial arts movie, convey the tension before a sudden burst of controlled fury, most likely accompanied by a taunt about the opponent's questionable parentage.   Dubbed into English, of course.

Lamborghini Aventador SuperVeloce

Our old pal Firas Abu-Jaber is back in action with a serious jaw-dropper!  This 1:16 scale Lambo is a completely new design, and built on commission.  Firas admits, to no surprise, that he built a white one to keep for himself.  Maybe they'll feature this super-car on the next episode of The Grand Tour on Amazon.  In fact, Richard Hammond might even be able to squeeze into this one...

Venice 1486

Inspired by the game Assassins Creed II, Jonas Kramm and Brick Vader have created this charming diorama of everyone's favorite City of Water.  Beyond the major landmarks depicted in the LEGO Architecture set, there's a lot to appreciate about Venice.  That's exactly what they captured in this scene of ordinary life during the fifteenth century.  Before it was a tourist trap, Venice was a hub of commerce and economic power.  But it also had its moments of tranquility, as you can see from the boy fishing on the pier to the gondolier rowing along the canal.  That guy on the roof, though, I think he's up to something...

Serrated Night 3V

Looks like our pal Nick Trotta's been busy with this impressive fighter for the Nnovvember contest.  He was inspired of course by the Vic Viper design, a ship from the Yukikaze anime, and an F-117.  I encourage you to click on the picture to see the high resolution image.  The details, color blocking and a crafty angle changes are a real treat.  How the heck did he do that?  Well, it's Nick, so naturally there's a video.  Wicked!
